Levi Colwill reveals who he thinks has been Chelsea's Player of the Season, and it's not Moisés Caicedo

Chelsea held their end-of-season awards last week, handing out prizes to recognize standout performers across the club.

Young winger Tyrique George claimed the award for Men’s Academy Player of the Season following a breakthrough campaign in which he featured 22 times for Enzo Maresca’s first team, scoring twice and providing four assists.

On the women’s side, Nathalie Björn won the Women’s Players' Player of the Season, while Erin Cuthbert took home Women’s Player of the Season.

But the night’s biggest winner was Moisés Caicedo, who scooped both the Men’s Players' Player of the Season and Men’s Player of the Season, the latter voted for by supporters. It was fitting recognition for the Ecuadorian midfielder’s relentless performances in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield throughout the campaign.

Not everyone agrees with that verdict, though.

Levi Colwill, for one, seemed to suggest the awards should’ve gone elsewhere—specifically, to Cole Palmer.

Chelsea capped off perhaps their best result of the season over the weekend, defeating newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

It was a day to remember for many reasons, but especially so for Palmer, who returned to the scoresheet after an 18-game goal drought across all competitions. He calmly slotted home a late penalty to secure all three points.

After the game, Colwill was full of praise for his fellow England international, expressing his delight at seeing Palmer back among the goals.

"We want him to score," Colwill said. "He deserves it – he’s been the best player every single game, even if he doesn’t provide the goals or assists."

"It meant a lot to him, and it made us all happy," he added.

So, who has really been Chelsea’s best player: Palmer or Caicedo?

Everything Chelsea says… maybe Caicedo.

Against Liverpool, Palmer looked like his old self again – dribbling past defenders, picking clever passes, showing flashes of flair, and, of course, finding the net.

But that version of Palmer has been missing for a while now.

Though he’s undeniably Chelsea’s most technically gifted player, he’s struggled for form and confidence in recent months – frustrated with both himself and his teammates, making poor decisions, and often going missing in big games.

At just 22, it’s understandable. The Englishman has had the weight of the team on his shoulders for most of the season, and while he carried it brilliantly for stretches, the burden has clearly taken its toll. Especially with others around him underperforming, the pressure has been immense.

Caicedo, by contrast, hasn’t dropped off.

While his performances haven’t always been as eye-catching as Palmer’s, the Ecuadorian has been the quiet engine keeping Chelsea ticking. He’s been steady, relentless, and crucial – just like his role on the pitch.

Yes, there have been standout moments, like his stunning volleyed equaliser against Manchester United back in November. But more importantly, it’s been his tackles, interceptions, transitions, and composure that have anchored Chelsea's midfield. He’s the reason the Blues have stayed in motion, and stayed in the fight.

Without his consistent, under-the-radar contributions, Chelsea wouldn’t be where they are now.

That’s why Caicedo, not Palmer, deserves to be named Chelsea’s Player of the Season.

Sorry, Cole. (And Levi).
