Chelsea's Renato Veiga has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund, according to reports from Germany.

Veiga joined the Blues from Swiss side FC Basel in a deal worth £12 million in July.

Since the move, the 21-year-old been limited to just one start in the Premier League for Enzo Maresca's side, but has been a regular fixture in the Europa Conference League, starting all six of Chelsea's games, scoring two goals.

Veiga also played 90 minutes as Chelsea beat Morecame 5-0 in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, but according to Sky Germany, it could be his last appearance for the West London club.

Sky claim that Veiga has reached an agreement with Dortmund, but that the Bundesliga club remain in talks with Chelsea over a potential deal. Dortmund want to take Veiga, who has been capped three times by Portugal, on loan this month with the option to sign him permanently in the summer.

Veiga's reported desire to join Dortmund comes in spite of Maresca recently insisting he wants to keep him at Stamford Bridge. "Renato is our player," Maresca said ahead of Chelsea's win over Morecambe. "He's a player that we're happy to have here with us." "The last game he played was Tottenham away and in a delicate moment of the game we put him there," he said. "This showed how we trust Renato."

Veiga has played in a variety of positions this season, including at left-back, centre-back, and in central midfield.

Back in October, Maresca praised the youngster for the versatility he has shown since his move to Chelsea.

"He has played already as a centre-back, a full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder," said the Italian coach. "He has already played four or five positions." "The reason why I really like and love Chelsea is because many players can be versatile," he explained.

"Today, in my idea, if they can play different positions, then it is better for the team and especially for the players."

Should Chelsea let Renato Veiga leave?

Everything Chelsea says...

The answer here is simple: No, Chelsea should not let Renato Veiga leave the club this month. Why? Well, first and foremost, he's impressed since his move from Basel, and given his age, he's only going to get better. Secondly, as eluded to by Maresca, Veiga's versatility is key, especially given the Blues' recent injury struggles. With both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badashile out for the forseeable future, and Reece James and Romeo Lavia having only just returned to action and needing time to get back to their best, letting go of a player who can play in all of those positions would be, quite frankly, ridiculous.
