Separated by just a single mile, Chelsea and Fulham are not only the closest of neighbors, but also long-standing local rivals.
Games between the two are often filled with intensity, passion, and pride, as West London bragging rights hang in the balance.
Though Chelsea has historically dominated the fixture, every clash brings its own story, drama, and unpredictability – making it one of the capital’s more underrated derbies.
Here, we take a look at the two clubs' full head-to-head record, break down key statistics from their meetings over the years, and revisit some of the most memorable and iconic clashes in this historic rivalry.
Chelsea vs. Fulham: Head-to-Head Record

Chelsea and Fulham first locked horns back in December 1910 in a Second Division clash at Craven Cottage, where the hosts came out on top with a narrow 1–0 win, courtesy of a goal from Jim Smith.
Since that inaugural meeting, the two West London rivals have faced off 92 more times across all competitions. Chelsea have dominated the fixture, winning 53 of those encounters. Fulham, by contrast, have only managed 13 victories, while the remaining 27 matches have ended in draws.
In the Premier League era, Chelsea and Fulham have met 36 times. The Blues have asserted their dominance in the top flight as well, winning 22 of those encounters. Fulham, meanwhile, have claimed victory on just three occasions – though notably, two of those wins have come since January 2023, marking something of a recent resurgence.
The remaining 11 matches between the sides in the Premier League have ended in draws.
Chelsea vs. Fulham: Famous Matches
There have been several famous encounters between Chelsea and Fulham over the years, with three of the most notable taking place in 1984, 2001, and 2004.
Chelsea 4-0 Fulham (Apr. 1984)
Chelsea's 4-0 win over Fulham in April 1984 stands as the Blues' joint-biggest victory over their West London rivals, and it came right in front of the home faithful at Stamford Bridge.
Club legend Kerry Dixon stole the show with a hat-trick, opening the scoring inside just a minute, while David Speedie also found the net in a dominant Second Division win for John Neal’s side.
Fulham 1-1 Chelsea (Sep. 2001)
Fulham and Chelsea’s clash in September 2001 isn’t particularly memorable for the scoreline, but for its historical significance – it marked the two clubs’ first meeting in the Premier League, and their first encounter since way back in 1985.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink opened the scoring for Chelsea with his seventh goal of the season, before Barry Hayles equalized for the hosts in the second half to ensure the points were shared in this long-awaited West London derby.
Fulham 1-4 Chelsea (Nov. 2004)
Roll forward to 2004, and Chelsea had just been taken over by Roman Abramovich, boasting a squad packed with world-class talent like Arjen Robben, Ricardo Carvalho, and Frank Lampard. Fulham, meanwhile, were experiencing mixed fortunes – finishing 14th in 2002/03 and climbing to 9th in 2003/04.
When the two sides met at Craven Cottage in November, the gulf in class was clear. Chelsea ran out dominant 4-1 winners, with goals from Lampard, Robben, William Gallas, and Thiago.
Under the leadership of José Mourinho, Chelsea went on to win the Premier League title for the first time in their history that season, while Fulham ended the campaign in 13th place.
