Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens over a sensational summer move to Stamford Bridge.
Gittens enjoyed a strong start to the season under former manager Nuri Şahin, scoring 11 goals by the midway point, including a memorable strike against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
However, following Şahin’s sacking in January, the 20-year-old's role has diminished under new boss Niko Kovač, who favors a system with wing-backs – leaving the English winger struggling for game time.
Amid his reduced opportunities at the Westfalenstadion and Chelsea’s current problems out wide – where Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, and Noni Madueke have all struggled for form, and Mykhailo Mudryk is suspended following a failed drugs test – TalkSPORT reports that the Blues have opened discussions over a summer transfer.
The outlet claims Gittens, described by Şahin as "incredible" and a "very good finisher," would cost around £35 million — a significant drop from the previously reported £83 million Chelsea were expected to pay. A move could appeal to the youngster, given his limited playing time and Borussia Dortmund’s uncertain Champions League prospects.
Kovač’s side currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga with just three games remaining, needing teams above them to slip up to have any chance of securing a top-four finish.

Speaking about Gittens’ future earlier this month, former Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann suggested a departure could be on the cards.
"If BVB don’t qualify for the Champions League, which I expect, they’ll have to let players go. Gittens is probably the one who would bring in the most money," Hamann said.
