Chelsea are reportedly plotting an audacious summer swoop to reunite Cole Palmer with one of his former Manchester City teammates.

The Blues are looking to strengthen their attack following an inconsistent campaign, with many of their forwards – Palmer included – having endured both red-hot and barren spells across the season.

Palmer, who lit up the first half of the campaign, has managed just two Premier League goals since the turn of the year, a sharp drop-off from the 15 he scored in the latter part of last term. Meanwhile, Nicolas Jackson has netted only once in 2024, finally ending a months-long drought with a winner against Everton last weekend.

According to The Independent, Chelsea have now set their sights on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers – one of the Premier League’s breakout stars this season – to help reenergise their frontline.

The 22-year-old has registered 14 top-flight goals and impressed with his strength, creativity, and versatility.

The report states that with Villa under pressure to trim a wage bill that currently exceeds 90% of their revenue, Chelsea "feel there may be an opportunity to do business" even if Unai Emery’s side would prefer to keep the England international.

Though a specific price tag wasn’t mentioned, Rogers is believed to carry an estimated market value of around £40 million.

Should the move go through, it would see Rogers reunite with Palmer, a close friend and former youth teammate at Manchester City. Though Rogers didn’t make a first-team appearance during his time at the Etihad, the pair have maintained a strong bond, with Palmer famously crediting his viral "Shiver" celebration to Rogers.

Could Chelsea sign Morgan Rogers?

Everything Chelsea says...

Signing Rogers, who fits the profile of Chelsea’s transfer policy targeting young, high-upside British talent, would be a smart and strategic move. His familiarity with Palmer could help reignite the 22-year-old’s form, while also offering Enzo Maresca a dynamic, flexible option across the front line.

Whether Rogers would be willing to leave Villa Park is another question entirely. The forward only signed a long-term deal with the Midlands club last November, tying him down until 2030, and has been vocal about how happy he is at the club.

“If I’ve got a smile on my face and I’m happy, that’s when I’m at my best – and I’m like that here,” Rogers told Villa’s official website in a recent interview. “I love the staff, I love the players I play with. There was no better club to come into than this. The manager and my teammates have pushed me, driven me on, and brought the best out of me.”

Still, with Chelsea's continued commitment to building for the future and their willingness to invest in emerging talent, Rogers would be an ideal fit in both style and strategy – if they can convince him to make the switch.
